Romney Ad Killed By Copyright ClaimHighlighting the challenges that the DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act) poses for free speech rights, presidential candidate Mitt Romney has been burned by an over-reaching claim of copyright.
Romney's campaign ad, which features a short (less than 10 second) clip of President Obama singing a popular song, was yanked due to a copyright claim by the major music publisher BMG. The notice-and-takedown procedure requires YouTube to leave allegedly infringing works offline for at least 10 days, even if the work in question is non-infringing.
